Ah, fall.
For some, it can be a kind of sad time…heralding an end to the summer vacation season and a return to the everyday routines of work or school. Shorter days, longer nights and cooler temperatures (all too soon turning to colder temperatures) are on the way.
The rich agricultural heritage of Southwestern Ontario though, means that the start of the fall season is also a reason to celebrate. The crops have been harvested, the livestock has fattened and the long hours of labour during the sometimes precarious growing season have finally drawn to an end.
It’s a time to have some fun and reap the rewards of all that hard work. Time to join with friends and neighbours and live it up a little bit.
Fall Fairs in Southwestern Ontario, it seems, have been around almost as long as the communities in which they are held have existed. In fact, as you’ll see, many of the fairs in our part of the country are marking some pretty remarkable anniversaries this year. Quite a few are over 150-years old and a handful have surpassed their 170th birthday!
If you just live for carnival rides, livestock shows, the midway, cotton candy, live music and all the other trappings, here is a comprehensive list of Fall Fairs taking place this year in Southwestern Ontario. For more information on events, scheduled performers, admission fees, hours of operation, directions, etc. please click on the hotlink immediately below the name of each fair.
Some of the fairs will have already taken place when you receive this e-mail…but we’ve included them anyway, so you can see the full list of what’s happening to celebrate the fall harvest…and maybe get a head start on planning for next year.
